Press release: School Biodiversity Alliance project completion

The ERASMUS+ 2022-2-EL01-KA210-SCH-000092421 “: A Creative and Collaborative Approach to Tackle Biodiversity Loss in Europe” program was successfully completed, giving a European orientation to the character of the Primary School of Chalkiades. It was a wonderful journey of knowledge in which students and teachers from Greece, Italy, Portugal, Ireland and Turkey traveled together. The program included two activities that took place over a period of one year from 31/05/2023 to 30/05/2024 where collaborating partners were

• CHALKIADES PRIMARY SCHOOL, coordinator of the program

• Istituto Comprensivo Statale scuola dell'infanzia, primaria e secondaria di 1°

Sanluri (Italy-Sardinia)

• ARTETEKA LIMITED (Ireland)

• ASN ASSOCIAÇÃO SOCIEDADE E NATUREZA (Portugal)

The first activity of the plan concerned the mobility and training of 13 teachers from the cooperating schools, which took place in Lisbon from 10/10/2023 to 13/10/2023.

A European network of schools was created with the aim at exchanging knowledge, integrating it into educational practice as well as seeking solutions to Biodiversity conservation issues. The students, with the support and guidance of the teachers, raised awareness of environmental issues through innovative teaching practices and sought solutions to manage the important problem of biodiversity loss. They became amateur video producers presenting the biodiversity of their area at a European level, through the website created for the purposes of the program, https://www.schoolbiodiversityalliance.com/. The second activity; Together for Biodiversity; concerned the organization and implementation of an artistic competition where the students through their works speak and propose solutions for the biodiversity of their place.

Students entered in two age categories. The best projects were awarded and all

projects were digitized and posted on the Virtual Musem of the network's website. The implementation of the program had multiple benefits for the educational community of the school for:

• the school was established as an important pillar of the local community,

gaining added value

• students acquired a central role

• foundations were laid for future collaborations with European bodies

• a cooperation network was created with teachers of European schools

• teachers developed language skills in English language

• contact with the civilization and culture of other European countries

We sincerely thank our partners for their vivid support and we hope to be able to continue working together on other international projects in the future.

The project was implemented with the co-financing of the European Union through the National Unit (IKY). Headteacher
